The research project started with the idea, from the Health Department of “Generalitat de Catalunya” – Maternal and Infant Health Program, to have an impact on primary and secondary prematurity and, developing within the prevention program and care to the preterm newborn, a prevention and improvement of the care to the newborn protocol (in the hospital delivery, discharge and follow-up) and a guide for parents of newborns born preterm.

Aim

To detect the educative needs of the families of preterm newborns from the parents point of view and the professionals point of view in order to design a support guideline that ease the information and help to improve the care to the families of the preterm newborns inside and outside the health care services.

Specific aims

  • To know the educative needs, care and support, of the parents of preterm newborns.
  • To develop an “Advice Guidelines for Parents of Premature Infants” from the detected needs.
  • To give information about the care and social resources available in case of need.
  • To give information oriented to the care and development of their child in the neonatology units.
  • To promote a design of a guide from a methodology based on the active action of the parents with strategies and didactic resources produced from the consensus of the multidisciplinary team.
